Romana Vrede is a is an acclaimed, award-winning actress and theatre maker with an long-standing career. For years, she was part of the ensemble at Het Nationale Theater and worked on productions including Race (2017), which earned her the Theo d’Or (Best Lead Actress in Theatre) and The Nation (2018) for which she was nominated for the Colombina (Best Supporting Actress in Theatre). Romana stars in series such as Amsterdam Empire (Netflix, 2025), Nemesis (Disney+, 2024), and Santos (NPO, 2023), as well as in films Jimpa (2025, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival) and I Don’t Wanna Dance (2021, for which she was nominated for Best Dutch Actor). As a theatre maker, she directed Sisterhood (2026) and created the play Who’s Afraid of Charlie Stevens (2016), inspired by her son. In 2023, she developed Tijd Zal Ons Leren, about heroes during colonial times, transforming it into a podcast, talk show, theatre performance, and television recording.
